More About This Course

This course is all about your creativity, which is a very important skill in any field. It focuses on divergent thinking, which is the ability to think of more than one way to solve a problem. Through a series of exercises that build creativity, short lectures, and readings, students learn about creativity and improve their own skills.

This course will help you understand the role of creativity and innovation in your own work and in other fields. It will push you out of your comfort zone and make you realize how important it is to try new things. This course will help you understand how important different ideas are and how to explain that to other people.

The main way you learn in the course is through a series of “differents,” in which you are asked to figure out and change your own cultural, normal, and habitual patterns of behavior. When you start with a prompt, like “eat something different,” you’ll start to see your own limits and learn how to get past them. You are also told to realize that creativity is based on social norms and that, by its very nature, it will be different from what society wants and be discouraged by it. Through practice in this class, creative people learn how to stick with their ideas. At the same time, these exercises are limited by safety, legality, and economic concerns, which are taken into account during the creative process.
