The Supertech twin towers collapsed on Sunday (August 28). Supertech’s loss of Rs 1 billion from the Emerald Court project in Noida. The building’s demolition cost roughly Rs 20 crore.ย 

Now, the burning question: Why are the Twin Towers being demolished?

The twin buildings are in Noida’s Sector 93A. One structure is 103m tall and another is 97m. About 3,700 kg of explosives were carried from Palwal, Haryana. Blend of dynamite, emulsions, and plastic explosives.

In 2004, The ‘Supertech Emerald Court’ housing society in Noida was projected. Noida Authority allotted a 48,263-square-meter area in Sector 93A’s Plot No. 4.

In 2005, the Noida Authority approved the building proposal for Emerald Court, which consists of 14 storeys (G+9).ย 

In June 2006, the company’s leased space reached 54,819.51 sq m. The floor space ratio for new allottees after 2006 was raised from 1.5 to 2.

In December 2006, NOIDA approved the first updated plan for the Emerald Court under the NBR 2006, adding two stories to bring it to G+11. Also approved: are Tower 15, Tower 16, and a shopping complex.

In 2012, the Noida government examined a revised plan with 40-story twin towers.

In August 2021, the Supreme Court ordered the destruction of the structures because they were too close together.ย

According to the court, the buildings were created illegally without the flat owners’ agreement as required under UP Apartment Act.

Supreme Court found Supertech and Noida Authority had “fraudulent collaboration.” The Noida Authority ordered Supertech to demolish the buildings at its expense.

In 2014, the court ordered the authority to demolish the buildings within 4 months.

The decision follows petitions from homebuyers.

The towers were to be demolished in May, then postponed to August 21. Recently, the Supreme Court extended the deadline on August 28, with a 7-day band till September 4.
